Job description

Job Brief:

As an Activities Coordinator at Discovery Care, you will work closely with the home manager / deputy manager to organise both social and person-centred activities to meet the needs and requests of our residents, ensuring they receive the exceptional care and support that they so deserve.

Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate activities by liaising with Care Staff to plan beneficial activities such as light exercise, arts & crafts, puzzles, knitting, sing-a-longs, days out, seasonal events, and more.
  2. Organise special cultural activities aligned with religious calendars like Hanukkah, Diwali, Christmas, Easter, etc.
  3. Ensure activities are tailored to residents' preferences and that they enjoy participating.
  4. Plan and oversee all social activities and diversional therapy within the home, considering residents' individual likes and dislikes.
  5. Integrate new residents into the activities programme of the home.
  6. Coordinate with Care Staff on special requirements such as celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.
  7. Organise community visits outside the home, including transportation arrangements for residents.
  8. Develop activity schedules that are communicated effectively to residents and staff, ensuring participation from all residents through group and one-to-one activities.
  9. Provide specialist media for residents with specific needs, such as news tapes, book tapes, large-letter books, and Braille.
  10. Maintain communication with residents' relatives and friends as needed.
  11. Assist care staff during mealtimes to promote protected mealtimes and ensure residents are supported to eat.
  12. Ensure activities are documented in Care Plans and records, including participation details.
About You:

To succeed in this role, you should have an empathetic and warm personality, with genuine enthusiasm to motivate and inspire residents to participate in activities.

The care home is based in Margate, so the ability to travel to and from the location is required.
