Job summary

Protocol Education are seeking an Active Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs in a specialist South Shields setting. The role is full-time during term time with a start date in September 2026 and a 8:30am-4:30pm schedule.

Energetic, confident and patient candidates who enjoy sport and working with young people will thrive, with driving being a bonus for accessing multiple schools. Competitive daily pay and ongoing CPD are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEMH and behaviour support.
• Able to engage pupils through sport and activities.
• Willingness to support across breaks and lunchtimes.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Build positive relationships through sport and shared interests.
• Encourage physical activity throughout the school day.
• Support pupils in lessons.
• Assist with PE and extracurricular activities.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Encourage positive behaviour and language.

What You'll Do

• Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Build positive relationships through sport and shared interests.
• Encourage physical activity throughout the school day.
• Support pupils in lessons.
• Assist with PE and extracurricular activities.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Encourage positive behaviour.
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation strategies.
• Act as a positive role model.
• Support pupils during break and lunchtime.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
