Job description
Overview

Active Together, the Active Partnership for Leicestershire, Leicester, and Rutland, is seeking a strategic, values-driven leader to shape our next chapter. This rare opportunity offers the chance to lead a well-established partnership working with system partners to create a more inclusive and accessible offer across physical activity and sport, supporting healthier, more active communities. We believe physical activity and sport are powerful tools for change—reducing inactivity, tackling inequality, and fostering inclusion. As Director, you will lead our strategic evolution, embedding physical activity and sport with wider system partners.

Location and scope: Office Base at County Hall, Glenfield (LE3 8RA). Role covers Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland, LE3 8RA.

Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic planning, strengthen partnerships, and position Active Together for future funding and long-term sustainability.
  • Represent Active Together with clarity and purpose, responding to local needs and national priorities, reporting to the Board Chair.
  • Drive a movement to address inequality, reduce inactivity, and support wellbeing by aligning with system partners.
  • Build trusted relationships across sectors to deliver lasting impact and influence through evidence-based strategies.
What we are looking for / Qualifications
  • You do not need a background in physical activity and sport. What matters is your passion to address inequality, your ability to connect across sectors, and your commitment to making physical activity and sport matter.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and delivery in a relevant setting.
  • Experience navigating political environments and engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Strong planning and implementation skills focused on outcomes.
  • Understanding of national policy around physical activity, sport, and school PE.
  • Success in securing public or private sector funding, including Lottery bids.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to lead through complexity.
  • You must show a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and apply this in practice. We will ask you to evidence alignment with our values during the interview process.
