We are looking for an active, friendly, reliable and patient PA to support a thirty‑year‑old woman to access her local community and enjoy social activities. This rewarding role involves accompanying her to cafés or the theatre, walks, appointments and other outings, while providing encouragement and practical support.
She is autistic, has severe anxiety and lives with ongoing pain. She is intelligent and independent but processes information slowly, so she values someone who is a good listener, communicates clearly and gives her the time she needs to make decisions. Gentle suggestions and new ideas are welcomed, but she appreciates being treated as the capable adult she is.
She is partially sighted with no peripheral vision. While she manages well independently, she may occasionally need to hold onto your arm in darker conditions or unfamiliar places for guidance. You may also be asked to carry some shopping as/when needed and accompany her to GP and hospital appointments.
The ideal PA will be calm, compassionate and professional, with the confidence to remain composed in an emergency. Although rare, she has a medical condition that can cause her to become suddenly unwell, so you must be willing to call 999 and make decisions whilst you support her until emergency services arrive if needed.
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required. If the role is offered on a self-employed basis, you will be responsible for the cost of your own DBS check.
If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
