The role:

Duncan Lewis Solicitors is seeking a talented paralegal to join its Claims Against Public Authorities and Inquest department.

The successful candidate will conduct supervised casework and support other lawyers in the department. Responsibilities include case preparation, legal research, taking proofs of evidence from clients and witnesses, and attending court hearings and conferences.

It is essential that you demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting civil liberties and human rights. Prior experience in this area is desirable but not mandatory.

Main Responsibilities of the Role:
  • Work effectively within a team and take responsibility for individual tasks.
  • Manage financial aspects of work, including billing targets.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards like Lexcel and Investors in People.
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities.
  • Handle client complaints appropriately.
  • Draft legal documents, liaise with clients, and develop advocacy skills if applicable.
  • Assist with audits and other relevant tasks.
Key Skills Required:
  • Strong academic background and relevant legal aid experience.
  • Experience in Legal Aid and Litigation, especially in Inquests/CAPA.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with the Legal Aid Agency’s online CCMS system is a plus.
  • Legal, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Good administrative skills, including document management and legal aid documentation.
