Actemium specializes in the bespoke design and fabrication of process-related projects, working to Food Hygiene standards and operating under BS EN1090 classifications. We are looking to appoint a Design Engineer to join our team.

Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for creating 2D and 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will also play a leading role in developing, improving, and implementing mechanical standards while ensuring responsible engineering practices and safeguards.

The role involves working mainly in the Feed, Food & Beverage, and Automotive sectors, with other sectors like Nuclear, HVAC, Waste & Renewables also in development.

The Role

  • Create 2D and 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Create fabrication drawings and liaise with Project Managers and Workshop Managers to develop bespoke designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet customer needs and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Provide technical support to customers and team members as needed.
  • Deal directly with suppliers to obtain prices and delivery times.
  • Create handover and documentation packs, including drawings, material certification, weld procedures, etc.
  • Ensure project designs meet deadlines and technical performance standards.
  • Assist in bid and contract reviews.
  • Take responsibility for the technical aspects of projects.
  • Maintain and implement design standards.
  • Perform other duties such as equipment specification, site visits, and special projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Desired Characteristics:

  • HNC or above in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Minimum 2 years in an engineering-related field
  • Experience with design and fabrication of steel and stainless-steel process equipment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel to job sites or fabrication shops
  • Ability to work independently and in teams

Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

  • Food Industry knowledge
  • Automotive Industry knowledge
  • Structural steel design per EN1090 standards
  • Pipework design including P&IDs and weld maps
  • Process flow diagrams and site layouts
  • Knowledge of steam systems, energy, stress calculations, pumps, piping, and motor/gearbox sizing
  • Experience with machined parts tolerance
