Join our Team as a Senior Controls Systems Engineer

Location: Slough (On site & Home working)

Job type: Full-time (37.5 hours/week + overtime)

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

Actemium Automation is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our team. This role offers a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in control systems engineering, enjoying a mix of on-site and home working.


What You’ll Do:

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, testing, and commissioning control systems for our clients, working closely with customers and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Leading the design, review, and testing of control systems, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for customers and internal teams, facilitating clear communication and project efficiency.
  • Designing, testing, and commissioning control systems according to specifications, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Overseeing onsite commissioning and testing activities, ensuring compliance with site-specific regulations and quality standards.
  • Supervising and providing technical guidance to design, build, and installation teams.
  • Supporting project planning, effort estimation, and tracking progress with Project Managers.
  • Contributing to tendering processes through cost estimation and technical proposals.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance project efficiency.
  • Serving as a technical expert, mentoring junior engineers, and sharing knowledge.

What You Bring:

  • Qualifications: HNC/HND/Degree in a relevant discipline with at least 10 years of experience in systems integration (or 15+ years with lower qualifications).
  • Extensive experience in PLC-based control systems, including architecture and programming (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, including control panel design, C&I system design, and commissioning.
  • Understanding of machinery safety standards and compliance.
  • Experience with onsite commissioning of complex control systems.
  • Preferred sectors include Food, Pharmaceutical/Fine Chemical, and Material Handling/Logistics industries.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and foster continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
