We are seeking a passionate and innovative Software Controls Engineer eager to drive automation excellence in regulated sectors, including water, energy, and process industries. Key Responsibilities – Automation & Controls Engineering
  • Design, develop, test, and commission industrial automation solutions, including PLC programming, SCADA, and HMI systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (process, electrical, mechanical) to deliver integrated control systems aligned with client requirements.
  • Produce and review technical documentation such as control philosophies, functional design specifications, user manuals, and electrical schematics.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of automation projects—from concept and specification through to commissioning and client handover.
  • Conduct site surveys, support FAT/SAT testing, and participate in commissioning to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable system delivery.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in both new and legacy automation systems.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements, promote best practices, and ensure satisfaction throughout project delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience for Software Controls Engineers

  • Relevant engineering qualification (Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent) in Electrical, Controls, Automation, or related discipline.
  • Practical experience designing and implementing industrial control systems using PLC, SCADA and HMI platforms (e.g. Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Schneider, Wonderware, AVEVA or similar), ideally within process industries.
  • Knowledge of software engineering for automation, including coding, troubleshooting, simulation and validation.
  • Clear communicator—able to engage confidently with clients, stakeholders and colleagues across all disciplines.
  • Proactive problem‑solver, analytical thinker, and comfortable working under pressure to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Full UK driving licence to travel to client/project sites across Hampshire and the South as required.
Desirable Experience for Automation and Controls Engineering Careers
  • Knowledge of regulated sectors including water, energy, process industries, and digitalisation initiatives.
  • Experience integrating automation controls with industrial networks.
