Job description

Client Manager
£55,000 - £62,000 + bonus - Full-time - Hitchin

If you're an experienced practice professional who enjoys combining strong technical knowledge with commercial advisory work, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a growing accountancy firm where people are genuinely valued.

We're working with an ambitious, modern practice that places real importance on keeping its team supported, motivated and progressing. As the firm continues to grow, there is also a genuine opportunity for you to contribute ideas, develop client relationships and help shape the future of the business.

The Opportunity

As a Accounts, Tax and Advisory Manager, you'll manage your own portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients, acting as a trusted adviser across accounts, tax and wider commercial matters.

This is more than a traditional portfolio management role. You'll work closely with business owners and directors to understand their objectives, interpret their financial information and provide practical commercial advice to help them make better business decisions.

You'll lead client meetings, present management information, identify advisory opportunities and work closely with the Directors on client development. Alongside this, you'll mentor junior and semi-senior colleagues and contribute to the continued development of the wider team.

What you'll be doing
  • Managing your own portfolio of SME and owner-managed clients
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to business owners and directors
  • Building long-term relationships and understanding clients' wider commercial objectives
  • Leading accounts meetings, quarterly reviews and advisory discussions
  • Preparing and presenting management accounts and financial information
  • Providing commercial advice to help clients improve performance and make informed decisions
  • Identifying opportunities for additional advisory and value-added services
  • Reviewing statutory accounts, corporation tax, personal tax, VAT and management accounts
  • Reviewing junior and semi-senior work and providing constructive feedback
  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues with their development
  • Supporting clients with Xero and other cloud accounting tools
  • Working with Directors on client development, process improvements and service development
What we're looking for

You'll ideally be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with proven experience managing your own portfolio within UK practice.

Technical expertise is important, but we're particularly interested in someone who can look beyond the numbers and have meaningful commercial conversations with clients.

You’ll ideally have:

  • At least three years' relevant practice experience
  • Experience managing your own client portfolio
  • Strong knowledge across SME accounts and tax
  • Confidence providing commercial or business advice to clients
  • Experience preparing and reviewing management accounts
  • The ability to identify advisory opportunities
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • Experience mentoring or developing junior staff
  • Good knowledge of Xero and other cloud accounting tools
  • A proactive, commercially minded and team-focused approach
Why consider it?

The accountancy firm genuinely prioritises its people, with a strong focus on keeping staff happy, supported and developing. You'll have access to ongoing training, mentoring and clear progression opportunities.

Crucially, the role gives you the opportunity to become a trusted commercial adviser, rather than simply being responsible for compliance work. You'll have direct access to Directors, exposure to business owners and the freedom to contribute ideas that can improve both client service and the wider practice.

As the firm continues to grow, there is genuine scope to influence its future, develop the advisory offering and take on increasing responsibility.

The package includes:

  • £55,000 - £62,000 salary
  • Commission and bonus opportunities
  • 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • Your birthday off and Christmas closure
  • Free on-site parking
  • Ongoing training and CPD
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Regular team socials
  • Direct access to the Directors

The Hitchin team is looking for an ambitious professional who wants to build strong client relationships, provide meaningful commercial advice and play an active role in the firm's growth.

If you're looking for a Accounts, Tax and Advisory Manager role where you can combine practice expertise with genuine commercial advisory work and influence the direction of a growing business, get in touch for a confidential conversation.
