Job description

Role involves overseeing client accounting work while supervising a small team. You'll be responsible for preparing financial statements, tax returns, and management accounts while also guiding junior staff members and ensuring quality control of their work. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership abilities, and client relationship skills, serving as a bridge between junior accountants and Senior managers.

The client formed within the last ten years and has developed on a strong foundation of working hard but working together. They are forward thinking and believe in rewarding well for your time with salaries a little above market rates.

The client started in Yorkshire and continues to build towards being a big player in this area, multiple sizes of typical clients ranging from audit threshold right down to sole traders.

They are looking to continue growing and will commit to invest in staffing which means the ability to grow within your team is large.

Description

  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and supporting their development
  • Manage a portfolio of clients, serving as their primary point of contact
  • Review and finalise financial statements, tax returns, and management accounts prepared by junior staff
  • Identify and resolve complex accounting issues and discrepancies
  • Monitor team workload and delegate tasks appropriately to meet deadlines
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members
  • Prepare high-quality financial statements and accounts for more complex clients
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies
  • Liaise with clients to gather information and discuss financial matters
  • Implement quality control procedures to maintain high standards of work
  • Participate in client meetings and present financial information
  • Contribute to practice development initiatives and process improvements
  • Report to managers/partners on team performance and client matters
  • Assist with training programs for junior accountants and apprentices
  • Stay current with changes in accounting standards and tax legislation

Profile

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), or AAT with over 10 years practice experience
  • Proven experience supervising or mentoring junior staff members
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax legislation (must have UK practice experience)
  • Excellent client relationship management skills with confidence in client-facing situations
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and prioritising effectively
  • Proficient with accounting software (Desirable - Xero, Tax calc)
  • Demonstrated ability to review financial statements and identify errors
  • Experience handling more complex accounting scenarios and business structures
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
  • Proactive approach to team development and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team structure
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of client's business needs

Job Offer

Starting salary of at least 45,000- 55,000 (DOE)
