Job summary

Alexander Daniels Limited is partnering with a growing business in Wednesbury to recruit an experienced Accounts Payable Manager who will own the AP function. You will lead the AP team, oversee end-to-end invoice processing, and drive strong financial controls while building solid relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

The role focuses on process improvements, month-end close support, reconciliations and KPI reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience as Accounts Payable Manager or senior AP role.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes and controls.
• Experience leading finance teams and developing staff.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Proficient with Excel and ERP/finance systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Accounts Payable team with high performance.
• Oversee end-to-end AP process and ensure accurate invoice processing.
• Manage supplier reconciliations and resolve payment queries.
• Review and authorise payment runs in line with controls.
• Monitor aged creditors and record liabilities.
• Maintain supplier relationships and handle escalated issues.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
• Support month-end close, reconciliations and reporting.
• Produce AP metrics and KPI reporting for senior management.
• Assist with system enhancements and automation initiatives.

Job description

We are delighted to be partnering with a well-established and growing business based in Wednesbury in the search for an experienced Accounts Payable Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to take ownership and play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the AP department, maintaining strong financial controls, driving process improvements and building effective relationships with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Accounts Payable team, ensuring high levels of performance and engagement.
• Oversee the end-to-end accounts payable process, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and efficiently.
• Manage supplier statement reconciliations and resolve escalated invoice and payment queries.
• Review and authorise payment runs in accordance with company procedures and controls.
• Monitor aged creditors and ensure liabilities are accurately recorded.
• Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, acting as a key point of contact for escalated issues.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, financial controls and audit requirements.
• Support month-end close activities, including reconciliations and reporting.
• Produce accounts payable metrics and KPI reporting for senior management.
• Assist with system enhancements, finance projects and process automation initiatives.

Experience

• Previous experience in an Accounts Payable Manager, AP Team Leader or Senior Purchase Ledger position.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes and controls.
• Experience managing and developing finance teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
• Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP or finance systems.
• A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
