Job description

We are delighted to be working on an opportunity for an Accounts Assistant for our client busy accountancy practice based in Prestwick.

If successful, you will join a firm who have built a solid reputation for providing the highest standard of accounting and financial management services to its clients throughout the West of Scotland.

The position is permanent and will cover full hours, Monday - Friday, from 9am - 5pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee bookkeeping and accounts preparation for a diverse client base, including sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
  • Prepare VAT returns, manage submissions, and ensure compliance with current regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts, financial statements, and self-assessment tax returns.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and HMRC to address queries, provide updates, and offer professional advice.
  • Support the payroll function for clients, ensuring accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Assist the team with administrative tasks, including answering phones and reception duties.
  • Perform any additional duties as required.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in an accounting practice environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Xero accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with current accounting regulations and experience with VAT and tax submissions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain strong client relationships.
  • AAT qualification or part-qualified ACCA/ACA is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple client accounts.
