Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 months experience in a practice environment preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar) required.
  • Studying towards or holding AAT, ACCA, or similar qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements for limited companies, partnerships, and LLPs.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly management accounts for owner managed businesses.
  • Conduct independent examinations of charity financial statements.

The Opportunity
Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be partnering with a well-established Scottish accountancy practice with a strong presence across multiple regional offices. Known for its collaborative culture and commitment to professional development, the company is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to support its business services team in the Dundee office.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in accounts preparation and bookkeeping/VAT who is looking to develop their career within a progressive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements for a range of clients, including limited companies, in line with FRS 105 and FRS 102, partnerships and LLPs.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly management accounts for a range of owner managed businesses.
  • Prepare charity accounts and understand the principles of fund accounting and Charities SORP compliance
  • Conduct independent examinations of charity financial statements on both accruals and receipts & payments basis
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments—such as tax and payroll—to ensure efficient and accurate service delivery
  • Build professional relationships with clients, responding to queries confidently and escalating issues where appropriate
  • Support the wider team by assisting with ad-hoc tasks, administrative duties and involvement in internal projects

Background and Experience

Minimum 18 monthsexperience in a practice environment preferred

Strong working knowledge of accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software such as CCH, Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage

Studying towards or holding AAT, ACCA, or similar qualification is desirable but not essential

Excellent attention to detail and time management skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
