Job description

We are delighted to be partnering with our well-established legal services firm to recruit an experienced Accounts Assistant - Legal Cashier.

In this key role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the financial records across all group companies, covering both general ledger and client ledger transactions. As an integral part of the finance team, you will ensure the accurate processing of financial data while maintaining full compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks, including HMRC VAT regulations, The Law Society of Scotland Solicitors' Accounts Rules, and The Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules.

What you'll do

  • Accurately allocate and process all bank receipts for both Client and Office accounts
  • Set up and review electronic payments (CHAPS, BACS, FastPay, International) across multiple banking platforms, ensuring Anti-Money Laundering compliance
  • Process a variety of accounting transactions including payments, receipts, transfers, bill payments, reversals, and third-party cheques
  • Manage transactional movements in client designated bank accounts
  • Review and authorise cheque requests in line with internal policies and timelines
  • Investigate and resolve unmatched items from daily bank reconciliations, cancel stale cheques, and return unallocated funds per internal procedures
  • Liaise with Directors, Partners, Fee Earners, and staff regarding client and firm transactions
  • Prepare and submit regular cheque and cash banking
  • Run monthly client account interest calculations and ad-hoc interest requests
  • Electronically file daily documentation for audit readiness
  • Support the annual audit cycle as required
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvements and documentation updates
  • Assist with ad-hoc departmental duties as needed
