Overview

Accounts Assistant up to £30,000!

Role Purpose

The Accounts Assistant will support the practice's accountants in delivering cash book analysis, reconciliations, and financial reporting for a portfolio of clients across a range of industries. Working closely with a semi-qualified accountant, the role will involve maintaining accurate client records, analysing cash movements, and assisting in the preparation of management and statutory accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate cash books for multiple clients, recording all receipts and payments.
  • Carry out regular bank and cash reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Analyse client cash books to identify anomalies, variances, or unusual transactions.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting information for management and year-end accounts.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain missing information, resolve queries, and ensure records are complete.
  • Support the semi-qualified accountant in preparing working papers and trial balances.
  • Ensure filing systems and client records are up to date and compliant with firm procedures.
  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and administrative tasks as required.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining financial records.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to interpret and explain cash movements.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, formulas).
  • Familiarity with accounting packages (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
  • Good organisational and time management skills to manage multiple client deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for dealing with clients and colleagues.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must have or be actively working towards an AAT qualification (Level 2/3 minimum).
  • Experience in an accountancy practice environment (desirable but not essential).
