Overview

Due to growth within our General Merchandise sector, an opportunity has arisen for an Accounting Assistant to join the existing Finance Team based at our Rochdale depot, Lancashire.

The Accounting Assistant role presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join the Wincanton team, reporting to the Finance Officer to develop their career within the Finance community at Wincanton.

The role is hybrid, with 3 days a week on site. Based at Kingsway, Rochdale.

Salary: £26,000

How will you contribute?

  1. Contribute to the production of weekly accounts with the help of the Finance Officer.
  2. Review costs and be able to explain the variances with meaningful commentary to operational stakeholders and Finance Manager.
  3. Manage time, attendance output, and Payroll on site & deal with all queries in relation to any variances.
  4. Support Finance Officer in month-end procedures, including balancing costs reported and ensuring all risks and opportunities are flagged to Finance Officer.
  5. Support Operators with their understanding of the operation cost drivers.
  6. Work with the operation team to capture all stats and non-finance info to input into the accounts.
  7. Ensure relevant costs are tracked and are up to date to prepay/accrue as appropriate.
  8. Review weekly Operational Trackers and liaise with the Operation to resolve any queries.
  9. Assist with period Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  10. Weekly & monthly Journal creation & postings.
  11. Control of inter-contract and inter-company re-charges.
  12. Deal with the purchasing for the contract including raising purchase orders and liaising with external suppliers on any queries.
  13. Undertake Ad-Hoc duties as may be reasonably required for the role.

What will you bring?

  1. Ideally, you will be studying/wanting to study towards a professional accountancy qualification (AAT, CIMA or ACCA).
  2. Looking to develop a career in Finance within the Logistics industry.
  3. Demonstrate and possess an excellent and diverse range of PC skills including Microsoft Excel.
  4. Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work accurately under pressure, plus flexible to the needs of the business during key reporting periods.
  5. Ability to work under your own initiative as well as part of a team.
