Hours of work: 8.30am to 5pm (with 1 hour for lunch)

Ruth Miskin Training provides training to schools in the UK and internationally on Read Write Inc. Phonics and other literacy programmes. We are passionate about teaching every child to read and keeping them reading.
As an Accounts Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the Accounts department. Your responsibilities will include maintaining the accounting system, helping with day-to-day financial operations, supporting the team and ensuring strong client relationships through excellent customer service via phone and email.
Responsibilities
- Customer support: promptly providing support to clients via phone/email by thoroughly investigating information using Xero and the company's portal.
- Invoice processing: reviewing automated invoicing, ensuring accuracy and completeness prior to issue.
- Account reconciliation: assisting in the reconciliation of accounts, maintaining accurate sales ledgers and resolving any discrepancies.
- Credit and debit control: ensuring invoices are paid on time as per the company's payment terms and contacting clients with credit or overpayments.
- Company bills: assisting the team with processing bills and receipts in a timely manner
- Audits: help prepare for and assist during internal and external audits, assisting the team with month-end financial checks
- Accounting process: understanding the company's accounting systems, keeping up to date with any changes, maintaining confidential information and flagging up issues to the team.
- General administrative tasks: supporting with general office tasks, following the team's planner and scheduled tasks.
Essential skills and experience
- Education: a college qualification or equivalent is required.
- Experience: at least one year experience in an administrative role.
- Customer service: a positive approach to assisting clients and resolving their enquiries promptly and efficiently.
- Technical skills: proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Communication skills: excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
- Attention to detail: strong attention to detail, accuracy in data/financial tasks, diligent and reliable to follow specific processes and relay information.
- Organisational skills: efficient time management, ability to plan and prioritise tasks, maintain thorough records for own use or for the team.
- Work ethic: proactive approach, show initiative and ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Analytical skills: effective analytical skills to identify and resolve discrepancies, provide solutions and support based on thorough investigation and due diligence.
Desirable
- Education: an associate degree or coursework in finance, accounting, or a related field is beneficial.
- Technical skills: experience with accounting softwares, such as Xero, Dext and Stripe.
- Previous experience in an accounting role is advantageous.
- Familiarity or experience within the UK education system is useful.
- Experience using a ticketing system for customer support such as Freshdesk is a plus.
