Job description

r radar is a ground-breaking litigation and commercial law firm that uses legal privilege and expertise with digital tools to proactively educate, manage, advise, and deliver business solutions to reduce business and legal risk.

The UK’s data protection landscape is continuing to change, and businesses must be kept updated to ensure they remain compliant with what the law requires. As a result, we are now seeing significantly increased demand for our services. To help address this, we are expanding our Cyber, Data and Information Law (CDIL) Team with an ambitious and highly motivated mid- to senior-level solicitor.

Experienced and successful in this dynamic area of law and with a proven track record, you will be keen to develop your skills further in a testing but stimulating position that will give you the opportunity to achieve results and develop your career in all aspects of information law and practice.

About the role

Reporting to the CDIL Team Leader, you will work with forensic experts, Counsel, and other specialists as a key member of rradar’s Crisis Management Team, providing rapid data breach and cyber-attack support to our clients.

  • Advising on UK General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation.
  • Incident response including regulatory notification and communication and any resulting regulator investigation.
  • Managing data subject access and Freedom of Information requests.
  • Advising on and undertaking Data Protection Impact Assessments, privacy notices, and other data-related documents and policies.
  • Advising on and drafting data sharing agreements and data processor agreements.
  • Data-flow mapping and developing Records of Processing Activities.
  • Undertaking compliance reviews and audits.
  • Working on litigated matters, to include advising and supporting litigation specialists regarding claims related to breaches of data laws.
  • Providing external data protection training.

You will work with forensic experts, Counsel, and other specialists as a key member of rradar’s Crisis Management Team, providing rapid data breach and cyber-attack support to our clients.

The role will also include elements of business development as we expand our client base further.

In return, we offer high-quality work that will allow you to develop your expertise in data protection, including working on both litigious and regulatory matters, and collaborating with your rradar colleagues across multiple legal disciplines. There will be opportunities to work closely with our litigation specialists and handle your own litigation cases should you be interested in court work.

This is a full-time, permanent position, located at either our Leeds, Hull, Birmingham, or Leicester offices, with travel expected between our office locations and to meet clients or undertake work on clients’ premises. A full, clean driving license and access to a vehicle are therefore essential.

For an experienced candidate, we are willing to discuss the option of fully remote working, with all the opportunities it offers.

About You

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor (or equivalent), with a minimum of 6 years PQE, with experience dealing with a large, varied, and complex caseload in the Cyber sector. You should also be comfortable supervising, developing, and coaching less experienced team members.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience identifying and developing new business opportunities and relationships.
  • Have working knowledge of IT systems such as Word, Outlook, case management systems, and digital dictation systems.
  • Be able to exhibit strong ability to work on own initiative using their autonomy, whilst also being a strong team player.

Most importantly, you must have a positive ‘can-do’ mindset, as the role requires working closely with other members of the CDIL Team as well as collaboration with other legal disciplines in the business, providing opportunities to learn and grow your knowledge and understanding.

rradar Benefits:

We offer a range of benefits to help our people do their best work and take care of themselves too.

These benefits include:

  • Private Pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • Discretionary Bonus - subject to company and individual performance
  • Company sick pay

  • Group income protection
  • MIP scheme
  • Death in service benefit 4x salary
  • EAP scheme
  • 25 holidays per year plus bank holidays
  • 35-hour working week
  • Social events and charity fundraising initiatives
  • Recruitment bonus and more!
