Job summary

Sumitomo Electric UK Power Cables Ltd. in Glasgow is seeking an Accounts Assistant to support day-to-day finance operations, process invoices, reconcile accounts and assist with payments.

The role reports to the Finance Manager and offers a clear path to grow within a growing manufacturing business. You will work with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics and Oracle, maintain accurate financial records, support VAT returns and collaborate with non-finance colleagues to improve processes.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a Finance role focusing on Accounts Payable; AAT qualification desirable.
• Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle or similar.
• Experience working in a Japanese company desirable.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment desirable.
• Ability to work with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Must have right to work in UK.

Responsibilities

• Monitor supplier invoices through the approval workflow and ensure accuracy and proper coding.
• Track outstanding invoices and seek timely approvals.
• Prepare and process customer invoices and credit notes.
• Monitor customer payments and assist credit control.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate weekly supplier payment runs and prepare payment proposals.
• Process supplier payments and ensure accuracy.
• Set up new suppliers in the ERP system with required data.
• Collate data for auditors and external tax consultants.
• Assist with VAT returns and other financial reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.
• Provide ad hoc support to the Head of Finance and Finance Manager.

Accounts Assistant

Location: Glasgow

Employment Type: Full-time

Reports To: Finance Manager

Role Purpose

We are seeking a motivated, organised, and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the finance department. The successful candidate will assist with maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, reconciling accounts, managing payments, and providing general administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the accounts function.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor supplier invoices submitted through the company's invoice approval workflow. Review invoices for accuracy, completeness, correct coding, and supporting documentation before or during the approval process, as applicable.
• Track outstanding supplier invoices and follow up with relevant budget holders or approvers to ensure timely approval.
• Prepare and process customer invoices and credit notes.
• Monitor outstanding customer payments and assist with credit control.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Prepare and coordinate weekly supplier payment runs in accordance with agreed payment terms and company payment schedules.
• Prepare payment proposals for review and authorisation in line with company procedures and approval limits.
• Process supplier bank payments as part of the regular payment run, ensuring payment details and amounts are accurate and in line with approved payment schedules.
• Set up new suppliers and vendors within the accounting system, ensuring all required information and supporting documentation are obtained and accurately recorded.
• Collating data for auditors, external tax consultants and grant authorities.
• Assist with VAT returns and other financial reporting requirements, where applicable.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and internal controls.
• Any ad hoc tasks to support the Head of Finance and Finance Manager. Provide general finance support to the Finance team.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience

• Previous experience working in a Finance role, particularly dealing with Accounts Payable. AAT qualification desirable.
• Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle or similar.
• Experience working in a Japanese company desirable.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment desirable.
• Ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Must have right to work in UK.

About Our Project In Port Of Nigg, Highland

Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.

The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond.

In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.

In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands.

The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
