  • Complete self-assessment tax returns for small businesses.
  • Assist with company closures and strike-offs.
  • Liaise with clients and HMRC to resolve queries.

Assistant Accountant / Accounts Assistant – Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire (Hybrid) – Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 per annum + benefits

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established accountancy practice in Aylesbury. This full-time, permanent position offers hybrid working and excellent scope for career progression. As an Assistant Accountant you will work across accounts, VAT and tax, supporting contractors, freelancers and small businesses while developing your technical skills and building client relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare statutory accounts and CT600s up to review stage
  • Reconcile PAYE, VAT and Corporation Tax
  • Support with VAT returns and year-end processes
  • Complete self-assessment tax returns for small businesses
  • Assist with company closures and strike-offs
  • Liaise with clients and HMRC to resolve queries
  • Keep up to date with accounting standards and compliance
Requirements
  • AAT qualified or currently studying (Level 2+ preferred)
  • At least 1 year's experience in accounting or finance
  • Confident with Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, FreeAgent and Excel
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Good communicator with the ability to manage deadlines
