Santander UK Plc represents over £200bn of customer assets and as part of the banking industry, is required to provide quarterly financial data to various stakeholders, including but not limited to Banco Santander, PRA, ECB, Bank of England.

Based in Unity Place, Milton Keynes, the team is part of the Statutory Reporting and Internal Controls team, which is part of Gesban UK, and which plays an important role within Santander, providing accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for Santander UK and its subsidiaries.

As entity accountant, you will be responsible for managing the financial records of a specific business unit within Santander, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, as well as timely completion of both monthly and quarterly submissions to our various stakeholders.

The team is also critically involved in numerous projects which are expected to go-live in 2025, aimed at automating our manual processes including the CFO Cargabal21 project and the ledger replacement project. The projects will relate to integration of new systems, new products, process improvement and other projects as required.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Completing all tasks to ensure timely month end reporting including processing any journals to ensure the financials accurately reflect the fixed asset register, accruals, intercompany balances, VAT, and tax
  • Completion of post month end tasks including balance sheet reconciliations, trend analysis, completing the entity’s VAT return
  • Delivering quarterly financial deliverables, related to the Balance Sheet of Santander UK Plc and Santander Asset Finance Plc, for many key stakeholders. This will be completed by:
    • Analysing detailed customer and other data across multiple data sources.
    • Reviewing completeness and understanding underlying trends of the provided data.
    • Utilising current processes to complete deliverables but also offering alternative methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Continually assessing specific data items ensuring that they meet future financial reporting requirements accurately
  • Responding to queries from Group Reporting, Statutory Accounts and both internal and external auditors where applicable
  • Supporting the Finance Manager in on-going projects including Cargabal21, ledger replacement, process automation and other improvements

What you’ll bring:

These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:

  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and ensuring deliverables of a high standard; highly organised, ability to plan and manage workload
  • Proficient Excel skills
  • Great problem-solving skills and data management experience
  • Collaborating with other colleagues in the wider team, ensuring a flow of knowledge and sharing of best practice

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • ACCA or CIMA Part qualified accountant or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working well with other departments
  • Finance experience and analytical skills

This role is based in Milton Keynes.

To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).
