Job Description:

We are searching for an experienced Accounting and Financial Reporting Assistant Manager. Consulting brings together multiple teams across Transactions, Risk & Consulting, ABA, and Outsourcing to provide client-centric solutions for RSM’s current and future clients within the middle market. Our Consulting team has a major role in driving the growth of the firm with over 1,700 people delivering almost £200m revenue.

At the heart of Consulting are six solutions offered to clients: business transformation, deal services, finance function support, risk and governance, forensic and investigation services, and restructuring. These solutions create a tailored approach to support clients in achieving strategic goals and empower our people to make an impact and develop their careers.

Overall job purpose

You will be a key member of the growing financial reporting advisory national team, focusing on clients within the London and Southern region. As an assistant manager, you will support the wider team and assist managers in delivering work across a portfolio of corporate clients, focusing on technical accounting, financial reporting, and consolidations. This includes the practical application of accounting standards under FRS 102, IFRS, and FRS 101, group reconstructions, accounting considerations, conversion to different GAAPs, technical accounting papers, and acquisition accounting support. The role also involves the preparation and/or management of statutory accounts under IFRS and FRS 101.

The department's fast growth offers opportunities to develop skills in business development and coaching junior staff. It also provides the chance to work with colleagues and businesses across the UK and support your local office. A strong understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting principles is essential. Financial reporting advisory projects typically involve report writing, so good quality report writing skills are also required.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting managers in delivering complex accounting projects, such as IFRS transition consultancy work or support on acquisition accounting and complex consolidations.
  • Developing and maintaining advanced technical knowledge through reading and courses, fulfilling CPD requirements, and staying aware of the firm’s services and publications.
  • Acting as a point of contact with clients, communicating problems or contentious issues to managers or partners, and suggesting solutions.
  • Managing a portfolio of clients and projects, including client care, project management, and WIP/billing management.
  • Liaising with other departments, especially audit and tax teams, to ensure deadlines are met and issues are resolved timely.
  • Coaching junior team members and participating in staff training and supervision. Line management of junior staff may be available depending on experience.
  • Willingness to travel to client premises; however, most work is likely to be office-based.
Personal and professional qualities

The role requires:

  • ACA qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience with UK GAAP and IFRS financial reporting.
  • Experience in a professional practice, ideally in an accounting advisory team or providing written accounting advice to clients.
  • Strong understanding of UK financial reporting requirements.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to add value.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with clients.
  • Experience supervising junior staff.
  • High competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
