Job Description:

Accounting and Financial Reporting Assistant Manager. We are searching for an experienced Accounting and Financial Reporting Assistant Manager.

Overall job purpose

You will be a key member of the growing financial reporting advisory national team, with a focus on the clients within the London and Southern region. As an assistant manager you will support the wider team and assist managers to profitably deliver work across a portfolio of corporate clients, focusing on technical accounting, financial reporting and consolidations. This will include the practical application of accounting standards under FRS 102, IFRS and FRS 101, group reconstructions and accounting considerations, conversion to different GAAPs, technical accounting papers and acquisition accounting support. The role would also include the preparation and/or managing of statutory accounts under IFRS and FRS 101.

The fast growth of the department will create opportunities to develop further skill sets including business development and coaching of junior staff. It will also present an opportunity to work with a variety of colleagues and businesses across the UK, as well as supporting your local office. A strong understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting principles is essential. Financial reporting advisory projects usually take the form of a report, therefore good quality report writing skills are also required.

Responsibilities

1. Supporting managers to deliver complex accountancy related projects for clients as they arise, for example IFRS transition consultancy work or support on acquisition accounting and complex consolidations.
2. To develop and maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses, and to fulfil the professional bodies’ CPD requirements including maintaining an awareness of the firm’s specialist services and publications.
3. To act as a focal point of contact with the clients, and to communicate any problems or any contentious issues identified to the manager or responsible partner, and to identify / form suggested solutions.
4. Management of a portfolio of clients and projects, including client care responsibilities, project management and WIP/billing management.
5. To liaise with other departments within the office, especially the audit and tax teams. To ensure that agreed deadlines are met and significant issues are resolved in a timely manner.
6. To act as a coach to more junior members of the team and to participate in staff training and supervision as required. This role has the opportunity for line management of junior staff depending on experience.
7. A willingness to travel to client’s premises is required, however, the significant proportion of work is likely to be office-based.

Personal and professional qualities

The role requires:

1. ACA qualified or equivalent.
2. UK GAAP and IFRS financial reporting experience.
3. Experience of working in a professional practice, ideally in an equivalent accounting advisory team or experience providing written accounting advice to clients.
4. A strong understanding of UK financial reporting requirements.
5. Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness and to add value.
6. Strong project management and organisational skills.
7. Strong oral and written communication skills.
8. Experience of working with clients.
9. Experience of supervision of junior staff.
10. Experience of Microsoft Office, with high competency with both Excel and Word.
