Job description

Summary: An excellent opportunity to support Vertex' Accounting and Finance Operations and get a head start in a career in Finance and Accounting whilst obtaining a valuable professional qualification in the AAT.

Wage: £18,500 a year, with an annual salary review and a set progression structure in place.

Hours: Monday to Fridays, 08:30 - 17:30, with 1 hour paid lunch break, totaling 37 hours 30 minutes a week.

Start date: Monday 2 March 2026, with a duration of 3 years 9 months.

What you'll do at work

This role will provide an opportunity to understand how Vertex' Accounting and Finance teams work together and are supported by global systems, with a chance to see a UK and International perspective as team support operations in 22 countries.

The first phase of apprenticeship will primarily be focussed on supporting the Global Accounts Payable team in accurately and compliantly supporting payment of our suppliers' invoices, developing skills such as email management, clear communication, and business partnering.

The second phase of the apprenticeship will be served by supporting our General Ledger Accounting team, providing the chance to understand and support our accounting team's day-to-day work and start to put your AAT training into practice.

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training, studying to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Training provider: BPP PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION LIMITED.

Training course: Assistant accountant (level 3), progressing onto AAT level 4.

What you'll learn

Course contents include:

  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
