Thank you for considering volunteering opportunities for Well Windsor.
About the Charity
Well Windsor is a parent-led charity made up solely of volunteers dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of the 6,000+ school age children in the town. The money we raise funds several programs including counselling support, proactive curriculum content, staff training and access to therapy animals. We are already working with 12 schools today, and from September 2025 we will be in a position to offer services to all 20 First, Middle and Upper Schools in the town.
Our aim is to provide every child in the town with the support they need to live happy, connected and fulfilling lives. Where possible, we focus on early and proactive interventions designed to reduce the occurrence of mental health challenges further down the line. But we also provide essential support to children that are already facing challenges with their mental health. All of our services are selected with input from our professionally qualified Board of Advisors, and the efficacy of our programs are objectively measured to ensure they are delivering the intended impact. Our vision is that this approach will create a blueprint for a community response that can be replicated in towns across the country.
Our Financial Position and Management
During its first financial year, which ends 31st July 2025, Well Windsor has raised approximately £140k in funds for its work. This is made up of annual founder donations, local grants, individual fundraisers, school activities, plus a recent Gala Charity Ball.
Well Windsor has funded £60k of in-school programmes to support mental health in this financial year and has committed to £80k of continuing, new or pilot programmes in the next academic year. Fund raising will continue in order to support more schools and develop more support.
Although Well Windsor selects, negotiates with and monitors the results of programmes delivered by 3rd party providers, the contracts for these services are between the school and the provider. We donate the equivalent amount to the school and sets certain criteria for this, such as sending out surveys to monitor the impact of the programmes.
The charity processes approximately 20 transaction per month, mainly to schools and increasingly to known payees, using Xero as its accountancy software. There is a bookkeeper who manages day to day transactions and provides financial reporting. The current Treasurer is a founder Trustee with extensive experience in P&L management, but is not a qualified financial professional.
Since launching in October 2024, fundraising and service provision has grown rapidly, and we are moving towards financial thresholds that require more formal experience and support. We therefore have two volunteering opportunities that could be fulfilled by someone with the right background and qualifications, or equally by more than one individual.
Treasurer
Well Windsor are looking for an experienced financial professional to take on the voluntary role of Well Windsor Treasurer. The Treasurer would be responsible for overseeing the charity’s financial health and ensuring responsible stewardship of funds. This includes the oversight of management of budgets, maintenance of accurate financial records, preparation of financial reports for the board, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and helping to develop financial strategies to support the charity’s mission. The Treasurer will work closely with the Chair of Trustees to ensure transparency, accountability, and the long-term sustainability of the charity’s work in supporting children’s mental health.
Accountancy Support
We are also looking for a qualified accountant with an understanding of audits and compliance, to help Well Windsor prepare for its first independent financial review (see Charity Commission guidance). Responsibilities would include reviewing financial controls, helping the charity improve and prepare the accounts, reviewing relevant policies and governance documents, supporting the Trustees in reviewing the first annual report and checking that Well Windsor is meeting the requirements of the Charity Commission.
We estimate this might require a volunteer to spend up to half a day per week from September to the submission to the Charity Commission in at the end of 2025. Subsequent involvement would be entirely at the discretion of the volunteer and the Trustees after this first phase is completed. This volunteer would be fully supported by the Chair and other Trustees on the policies/annual report/governance documents.
