About the role

We have a new opportunity in our Naracoorte office for a passionate and engaging Accountant with Public Practice experience and client contact skills. You will be expected to prepare and complete financial statements, tax returns, activity statements, and financial reports for all business types in a timely manner. You will have the experience and desire to mentor and coach junior team members to help them grow professionally within our firm. You will work within a cohesive team that provides timely quality advice and outcomes for our growing client base. Reachable targets will be set with an emphasis on working reasonable hours, and you will have access to Directors and Senior Accountants for mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of financial statements and tax returns for individuals, companies, partnerships, and trusts
  • Liaise with the ATO on behalf of clients
  • Contribute to client interaction and advisory
  • Advise business owners and individuals regarding tax legislation
  • Identify areas of opportunity such as business planning, business / tax structuring, and profit improvement
  • Detect and address potential compliance issues proactively
  • Conduct salary and wage interviews and complete Tax Returns during client appointments
  • Contribute knowledge and experience to the efficiency of Murray Nankivell's internal operating systems

About you

Skills and experience

You will possess or be able to evidence most or all of the following selection criteria:

Technical Expertise

  • Hold an Accounting Degree qualification
  • Proven Australian experience in a Public Practice Accounting firm

Knowledge and Skill

  • Strong understanding of accounting, compliance, and tax, including income tax, CGT, FBT, and GST
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage time to meet deadlines
  • High proficiency with Accounting software packages

  • Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy and completeness of numbers at all times

Technical Expertise

  • Hold or are working towards a CA or CPA certification
