Job description

We are recruiting for a Finance Business Partner in the Convenience area, supporting trading plans, ensuring financial actions are followed up, and acting as the key finance contact for the commercial team. The role involves reviewing category P&Ls, managing aged debt, and providing insights on sales, margin, promotions, and market performance. You’ll also support budgeting and forecasting, ensuring clear justifications for changes and alignment on risks and opportunities. Additionally, you’ll oversee commercial income and financial control, ensuring accurate tracking, timely billing, and robust financial reporting.

Accountabilities
Business Partnering
  • Providing guidance, support, and challenge around trading plans and activities. Ensuring actions are followed up on.
  • Serving as the key finance contact for the wider commercial team for queries.
  • Aligning with business partners on performance commentary, ensuring action plans and proposals are backed by data.
  • Supporting business case development and sign-off processes.
  • Conducting category P&L reviews.
  • Managing aged debt.
Performance Review & Analysis
  • Performing daily/weekly performance reviews.
  • Analyzing sales, margin, and commercial income.
  • Evaluating promotions to assess lift and margin contribution.
  • Reviewing price and margin sensitivity to optimize cash margin.
  • Tracking market performance against benchmarks and identifying areas underperforming to develop improvement options.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Reviewing outturns at the category level to inform monthly reports, with clear justification for changes.
  • Evaluating previous month’s actions and assumptions, addressing deviations, and refining strategies accordingly.
Commercial Income & Financial Control
  • Ensuring all contracted commercial income is effectively captured and tracked.
  • Ensuring timely billing and receipt of payments.
  • Reporting on suppliers with late payments.
  • Capturing journal entries, period-end postings, and branch allocations.
About You

We need a Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with a strong foundation in management or financial accounting. Commercial finance experience is a plus, but more importantly, we want someone who’s curious, proactive, and willing to challenge the status quo.
