The Role: Controller (Hospitality Focus)
We're looking for a seasoned Controller to lead accounting operations for a portfolio of hospitality clients-including hotels, vacation rentals, and boutique properties. You'll own financial reporting, support client relationships, and guide a team of accounting professionals. What You'll Do
- Lead monthly and quarterly close processes with accurate GAAP reporting
- Prepare and analyze financials-P&L, balance sheet, cash flow-with clear insights
- Oversee job costing, forecasting, and budget-to-actual reporting
- Review and guide the work of junior team members on hospitality accounts
- Leverage tools like QuickBooks Online, M3, and property management systems (PMS)
- Ensure compliance with hospitality standards, tax filings, and internal controls
- Be the primary point of contact for clients-answering questions, solving problems, and coordinating with auditors or tax teams
- Support onboarding of new clients: chart of accounts setup, process mapping, and best practices tailored to hospitality
Requirements- 7+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ in hospitality (hotels a plus)
- Strong grasp of hospitality accounting-revenue recognition, occupancy taxes, and industry metrics
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online, M3, Excel/Sheets; PMS tools a bonus
- Clear communicator with strong client service skills
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
- Available to work full-time during 9 AM-5 PM EST hours
- Open to working as an Independent Contractor
