Accountant Controller (Hotel Industry Required)

About Howard

Howard Financial Services delivers tailored back-office support to a range of growing companies, with services spanning bookkeeping, accounting, FP&A, and strategic finance. We partner with businesses in hospitality, real estate, consumer products, and sponsor-backed companies-helping them scale with confidence through sharp financial insight and operational clarity.

The Role: Controller (Hospitality Focus)

We're looking for a seasoned Controller to lead accounting operations for a portfolio of hospitality clients-including hotels, vacation rentals, and boutique properties. You'll own financial reporting, support client relationships, and guide a team of accounting professionals. If you're detail-obsessed, client-savvy, and experienced in hospitality finance, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Lead monthly and quarterly close processes with accurate GAAP reporting
  • Prepare and analyze financials-P&L, balance sheet, cash flow-with clear insights
  • Oversee job costing, forecasting, and budget-to-actual reporting
  • Review and guide the work of junior team members on hospitality accounts
  • Leverage tools like QuickBooks Online, M3, and property management systems (PMS)
  • Ensure compliance with hospitality standards, tax filings, and internal controls
  • Be the primary point of contact for clients-answering questions, solving problems, and coordinating with auditors or tax teams
  • Support onboarding of new clients: chart of accounts setup, process mapping, and best practices tailored to hospitality
Requirements
    • 7+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ in hospitality (hotels a plus)
    • Strong grasp of hospitality accounting-revenue recognition, occupancy taxes, and industry metrics
    • Proficient in QuickBooks Online, M3, Excel/Sheets; PMS tools a bonus
    • Clear communicator with strong client service skills
    • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
    • Available to work full-time during 9 AM-5 PM EST hours
    • Open to working as an Independent Contractor
Benefits
  • Competitive pay - based on experience and role
  • Quarterly performance bonus - tied to team and individual results
  • Unlimited paid time off - with a few blackout dates (Jan-Feb for tax season)
  • Remote work - collaborate with a global team from wherever you are
  • 10 paid holidays per year - local or U.S. holidays, your choice
  • Structured schedule - standard business hours with 9-5 EST overlap
  • Annual performance reviews - with clear feedback and salary discussions
  • Career growth opportunities - we support your development and next steps
  • Learning culture - we value curiosity, feedback, and continuous improvement
  • Supportive team - sharp, friendly people who care about great work
  • Clear processes - so you can focus on delivering results
