Job description

Accountant who is part qualified, fully qualified or qualified by experience, with financial management and accounting experience and competent in the use of Microsoft 365 and computerised accounting systems is required to join a well-established organisation based in Oakham, Rutland, East Midlands.

LOCATION: Oakham, Rutland, East Midlands (LE15) – with Hybrid working options

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, 18 Month Fixed Term Contract

WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week – flexible and agile working

JOB OVERVIEW

Due to additional funding, which has resulted in the development of several meaningful projects, we have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Accountant who is part qualified, fully qualified or qualified by experience, with financial management and accounting experience and competent in the use of Microsoft 365 and computerised accounting systems.

As the Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering a portfolio of high-impact strategic projects, involving developing and monitoring project budgets, forecasts and financial reporting. This will also involve collaborating with Project Managers and Senior Stakeholders to ensure financial oversight and accountability.

Working as an Accountant, you will also support the Head of Finance to improve existing processes and controls, strengthen governance and continually improve the quality of information used to support decision making.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as an Accountant will include:

  • Financial Management:
  • Conducting basic financial analysis, including cost analysis and variance analysis
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Participating in the month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Assisting in maintaining internal control procedures to ensure financial integrity
  • Handling complex account reconciliations
  • Corporate Accounting:
  • Conducting basic financial analysis, including cost analysis and variance analysis
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Participating in the month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Assisting in maintaining internal control procedures to ensure financial integrity
  • Handling complex account reconciliations
  • Taking a more active role in preparing financial statements
  • Assist the Principal Accountant to maintain the organisation's Asset Register, asset valuations and aspects of capital accounting
  • Support the Principal Accountant in providing an effective Treasury Management function for the organisation
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • AAT Qualified, CCAB Qualified or Qualified by Experience
  • Experience of financial management and accounting (relevant to level)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and statutory requirements
  • Highly competent in the use of Microsoft 365
  • Able to manage and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Competent in the use of computerised accounting systems
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to interpret complex financial information and communicate effectively the results through reports
  • Effective leadership and team management skills
  • Flexible in working patterns to fulfil commitments of the role and team
  • Willing to visit other sites as and when required
