Job description

This is a fixed-term post for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

A fantastic opportunity to join the University of Southampton, a founding member of the Russell Group with an international reputation for research and one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities. We are seeking to appoint an Accountancy Assistant to work within the Finance directorate. The team handles key aspects of research finance services across the University; the successful candidate will be part of a supportive, close-knit team committed to providing excellent service to our world-leading academics.

The role is ideal for someone with an aptitude for finance, who is diligent, proactive, and analytical. Responsibilities include supporting research finance and administration by following legal and financial guidelines to cost research applications, accepting new research awards, providing guidance and support, offering financial advice, and communicating with academics and professional services colleagues.

The successful candidate will be well-organized, possess good communication skills, and be self-motivated to manage their workload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. They should be comfortable learning new IT systems, including university accounting and costing systems, for which training will be provided. Prior accounting knowledge and experience are preferable, and customer service skills are essential.

The role offers hybrid working between Home and Highfield main campus, with expectations of two office days per week. Part-time applications will be considered; further details can be discussed at interview.
