Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a strategic Market Access leader for the UK & Ireland inflammation portfolio. You will shape evidence generation, develop differentiated value propositions, and drive reimbursement strategies across a complex matrix of internal and external partners.

Reporting to the Head of Value and Access, you will influence senior leaders and coordinate across Market Access, Medical Affairs, Marketing/Commercial and Global teams. This is a hybrid role based in Bracknell, UK.

Qualifications

  • Degree in scientific, healthcare, life sciences or related field.
  • 7+ years in pharma in Health Economics or Market Access roles; strong track record.
  • Experience in UK market access with NICE, SMC, AWMSG, NCPE; HTA submissions.
  • Proven health economics/market access across pre-launch assets and diseases.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation with senior leaders.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix without direct reports.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills; translate insights to actions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with global and external stakeholders.

Job description

THE POSITION

This is a highly strategic pre-launch role, focused on shaping and delivering market access strategies for Boehringer Ingelheim's inflammation portfolio. As a key member of the UK & Ireland Market Access & Healthcare Affairs and Asset Teams, you will lead the development of integrated access strategies that maximise future patient access and support commercial success. Working closely across Market Access, Medical Affairs, Marketing/Commercial and Global teams, you will shape evidence generation plans, identify evidence gaps and evidence requirements for future reimbursement, develop differentiated value propositions, and drive strategies to secure optimal reimbursement and access within an evolving competitive landscape. You will influence key asset decisions, including evidence generation priorities, value proposition development and competitive positioning, ensuring market access considerations are embedded throughout asset planning and decision-making.

Reporting to the Head of Value and Access, you will influence and negotiate with senior leaders across a complex matrix organisation, leading without direct line management responsibility through expertise, credibility and collaboration.

Location: Bracknell, UK, with a hybrid working model requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office and up to 3 days working from home.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development and implementation of UK & Ireland market access strategies for the inflammation portfolio, ensuring alignment with wider business and asset objectives.
  • Develop compelling value propositions by synthesising insights from payers, policymakers, healthcare professionals and patient communities, and shape evidence generation strategies to address key evidence gaps and support future reimbursement decisions.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in the external healthcare, market access and policy environment, identifying opportunities and risks that could impact future access strategies and developing plans to address them, including informing competitive positioning and access differentiation strategies.
  • Lead integrated access planning and chair cross-functional access team meetings, ensuring alignment across Market Access, Health Economics (inc. HTA), Outcomes Research, Patient Engagement, National Policy & Programs, Corporate Affairs, Medical Affairs inc. RWE, and Commercial teams, and influence key asset decisions through an access, value and evidence lens.
  • Drive the development and execution of market access plans that shape asset development, optimise future reimbursement potential and support successful product launches.
  • Partner with Global Value & Access teams, ensuring local market insights influence global strategy and planning.
  • Drive all access-related project plans, budgets and stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring delivery against milestones and business objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing without authority to drive alignment and achieve strategic priorities.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in line with the ABPI Code, applicable legislation and Boehringer Ingelheim policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A degree in a scientific, healthcare, life sciences or related discipline. A postgraduate qualification such as an MSc, PhD or MD in Health Economics, Life Sciences or a related field would be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 7 years in a pharmaceutical company in Health Economics or/and Market Access roles, with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful market access strategies. Agency experience can be considered but only with substantial experience working in a pharmaceutical company.
  • Experience within UK pharmaceutical companies, with strong understanding of the UK and Ireland market access environment and relevant HTA bodies, including NICE, SMC, AWMSG and NCPE.
  • Proven experience leading HTA submissions from early stages through to reimbursement.
  • Proven experience in health economics and market access across a broad range of pre-launch assets and disease areas, including shaping evidence generation, developing value propositions and informing strategic asset decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills, with proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and drive alignment across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment without direct line management responsibility, creating clarity, momentum and accountability around shared priorities.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex insights and translate them into actionable recommendations that support business objectives.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with senior leaders, global teams, and external stakeholders.
