Are you a qualified Nursing Associate with a passion for children? This accelerated 2-year Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (aRNDA) at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, delivered in partnership with UWE Bristol, offers you the opportunity to become a Registered Children’s Nurse while continuing to earn and learn.

The programme starts the week commencing 29th September 2025. You will join the programme in Year 3 of the 4-year BSc (Hons) Children’s Nursing Apprentice pathway, with prior learning and 960 practice hours accredited from your Nursing Associate training.

Apprenticeship learning includes one day of theory per week (Wednesdays at UWE) and 15 supernumerary clinical hours in your base area. The remainder of your contracted hours will be in your employed role as a Nursing Associate. The course is 50% theory, 50% practice. With 4 external placements.

You will receive child-specific teaching and may join learners from another Trust also offering the children’s RNDA. External placements will be arranged by UWE and take place in full-time blocks across the 2 years.

  • Those with 12+ months' post-registration experience by 29 th September 2025
  • Applicants within 8 weeks of 12 months' experience (with written support from their Line Manager and Director of Nursing)
  • Completion of preceptorship is desirable
Main duties of the job
  • Work as a Nursing Associate while completing your studies
  • Attend weekly academic sessions at UWE (Wednesdays)
  • Complete 15 hours supernumerary practice weekly in your base clinical area at UHBW
  • Attend 4 external full-time placements.
  • Achieve the NMC requirement of 2,300 practice hours (with 960 hours accredited from previous training)
  • Learn in a supportive environment with dedicated mentors and child-specific content
  • On completion, progress to a Band 5 Registered Nurse (Children’s) and successful NMC registration

The course is demanding and requires a high level of commitment, but the reward of becoming part of a skilled, compassionate team providing outstanding care to children makes the challenge worthwhile. Interview will be on Monday 21 st July and include a presentation from UWE, the academic provider for more detail about the course.

On successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to apply for your Nursing and Midwifery Council registration number known as your ‘PIN’, and subsequent entry onto the NMC register as a band 5 Registered Nurse (RN). Ideally you be offered a RN role within your base area.

An Assessment centre interview for those candidates who have been shortlisted will take place on 30 th June 2025.
