Academic Support Assistant
Location: Fareham, Hampshire
Salary: £12.82 per hour
Start Date: Immediate / September 2025 start
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (Part-time can be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Academic Support Assistant to work in a mainstream secondary school in Fareham, Hampshire.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are eager to provide academic support to students in a structured and nurturing school environment. You will be supporting learners across different subjects, either in-class, one-to-one, or in small groups, helping them to access the curriculum and develop their skills and confidence.

As an Academic Support Assistant, your responsibilities will be:

  • Deliver focused academic support to students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Work alongside teachers to provide inclusive, high-quality education.
  • Support students during lessons and through targeted interventions.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to suit varying needs.
  • Track student progress and communicate with teaching staff.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment for all pupils.

Requirements for an Academic Support Assistant:

  • Previous experience working in education or academic support preferred.
  • SEN experience is an added bonus.
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare.
  • A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling, Education or similar field.
  • Excellent communication, literacy, and numeracy skills.
  • Adaptable, reliable, and patient when working with students.
  • Commitment to supporting the learning and development of young people.
  • A valid enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
