Bath Spa University London (BSUL) is our new, business-focused teaching centre based in vibrant Hackney, East London and is easily accessible via Hoxton and Shoreditch overground stations, as well as the bus and tube. The new centre enjoys top facilities, friendly academic guidance and a great location that equips our students with the knowledge, opportunities, and skills needed for a successful career.

With the recent development of the Postgraduate Business Education academic portfolio at BSUL we will be welcoming our first cohort of sponsored international students from September 2024 in addition to our foundation year and undergraduate programmes.

About the Role

We are seeking an Academic Skills Manager to join our dynamic team at our Hackney teaching facility. As part of the International Student Success Hub, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic skills development and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) provision for our diverse student body, most of whom are non-native English speakers.

You will be required to provide Academic Skills and EAP services in the form of tutorials and larger workshops embedded within the curriculum. You will also work closely with Bath-based campuses to ensure the offer at the London teaching site aligns with the larger teaching and learning strategy of the university.

About You

  • Degree + Delta qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of developing teaching activities and academic support materials in a range of formats
  • Ability to develop effective teaching strategies that embrace cultural difference in the classroom and address potential barriers.
  • Adaptable and flexible, able to navigate changing priorities and situations effectively.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team and across departments
  • Experience in Higher Education environment.
  • Experience of staff supervision and management
  • Experience in e-learning, digital education, or instructional design

Additional Information

PLEASE NOTE: This role is based at our BSU London campus in Hackney, London.

Salary: Grade 7, starting from £40,749 rising to £45,382 per annum
Please note that a £2500 Market Pay Supplement has been added.

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

You will be expected to work some evenings and weekends as the role demands.
