Job summary

The University of Greater Manchester is seeking an experienced Academic Skills Coordinator to join the Library within the Student Services & Experience team. You will design and deliver high-quality study skills resources and provide personalised support to students, across levels of study, via workshops, appointments and drop-ins.

You will work with the Academic Librarian & Academic Skills Team Leader to close gaps identified in APP and other initiatives, ensuring accessibility and continuous

Qualifications

  • Experience in creating and deploying learning materials across multiple platforms.
  • Knowledge of library services, information literacy, and HE sector practices.
  • Experience teaching and supporting students in research and study skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain online skills content using Contensis, LibGuides, Synthesia and other software.
  • Collaborate with university stakeholders to apply learning technologies and pedagogies.
  • Ensure study skill content accessibility in collaboration with Disability Services.
  • Collect and analyse data/feedback to monitor impact of academic skills.
  • Develop external partnerships to enhance student support and raise service profile.
  • Help develop annual operational plans and local strategies with leadership.
  • Promote Students as Partners in service planning and delivery.

Job description

Support & Enhance Academic Skills Support.

The University of Greater Manchester is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join the Library in the Student Services & Experience team as Academic Skills Coordinator.

This is a key role responsible for delivering high-quality, inclusive, and student-centred library and academic skills services. You will play a central role in supporting student success by developing provision that enhances information literacy, digital capability, and academic skills across the student journey.

The Role:

Reporting to the Academic Librarian & Academic Skills Team Leader, you will design, create and deliver high-quality study skills resources to both groups and individual students across all levels of study and programmes via scheduled, bespoke in-class, one-to-one appointments, drop-ins, and in-sessional workshops to support numeracy, literacy, academic core skills and to develop students’ personal development.

Support the Academic Librarian & Academic Skills Team Leader in the development of study skills that are aligned to addressing and closing the gaps with regards outcomes in accordance with the Access and Participation Plan (APP) and other university initiatives to address skills gaps.

To promote, organise and evaluate the University of Greater Manchester’s study skills services, review and undertake the quality assurance of learning materials including all services, systems, processes and protocols necessary to develop and maintain learning content.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and maintain online skills content using a range of technical platforms such as Contensis, LibGuides, Synthesia, and other software packages.
  • Work effectively with a range of university stakeholders to understand appropriate learning technologies, pedagogies.
  • Work closely with Disability Services and other stakeholders to ensure study skill content is accessible.
  • Collate and analyse data and feedback from a wide variety of sources in order to monitor impact and effectiveness of academic skills.
  • Build and maintain external operational partnerships to enhance support for students and raise the profile of university services.
  • Work with the Academic Librarian & Academic Skills Team Leader to develop annual operational plans and local strategies.
  • Promote co‑creation and student voice, embedding Students as Partners principles in service planning and delivery.
  • Ensure robust systems, processes and resources are in place for effective delivery of services and strategic projects.
About You:

You will be an experienced library or academic skills professional with a passion for student success and inclusive practice.

You will demonstrate:
  • Competence of creation and deployment of learning material across a number of software platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of library and information services, academic skills development, and current HE sector practice.
  • Experience of teaching and supporting students in areas such as research skills, academic writing, and study skills.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships with academic and professional services colleagues.
  • Proven ability to apply experience to meet the needs of diverse student groups.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and student-centred practice.

A relevant honours degree and professional qualification in librarianship are essential, with chartership (CILIP) or a teaching qualification desirable.
