Support & Enhance Librarian Support

The University of Greater Manchester is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join the Library in the Library team as Academic Liaison Librarian (Health)

This is a key role responsible for delivering high-quality, inclusive, and student-centred library and academic skills services. You will play a central role in supporting student success by developing provision that enhances information literacy, digital capability, and academic skills across the student journey.

The Role:

Reporting to the Academic Librarian & Academic Skills Team Leader, you will predominantly support the School of Health & Society, but also support other academic departments as required.

As an Academic Liaison Librarian you will take an operational lead on academic and professional support, including liaison and user education, and supporting subject inquiry services, alongside generic Library support. Curate library resources primarily within professional services related programmes induction, class-sessions, tailored delivery, drop-ins.

Providing Support to all library users, including 1:1 appointments, subject guides, resource lists, referencing, external access, copyright, research, and ad-hoc projects within the Library and collaboration across the University.

Key Responsibilities:

• To ensure support for library users at all levels; to have regular contact and an excellent working relationship with academics and representatives by identifying and developing efficient communication channels.
• To develop academic staff engagement with resource allocation processes, online resource lists, use of Subject Guides and Discovery Services and study skills support.
• To develop research support, including the provision of training sessions for research students and staff.
• Identify trends in service demand from all customer contacts and to highlight/share this information with the appropriate team and/or line manager to support the Customer Service Excellence framework.
• To support colleagues in The Library and wider Student Services and Experience teams to identify student engagement opportunities. Analyse data and communicate the findings to the wider management team.
• To work with colleagues to drive forward service improvements and provide students with clear direction for seeking support and seamless referrals to support academic, pastoral, social and mental wellbeing.
• To help coordinate the administration and delivery of Induction and pre-enrolment activities, library tours and on campus events and campaigns and provide administrative support to develop initiatives to support students.

About You:

You will be an experienced library professional with a passion for student success and inclusive practice.

You will demonstrate:

• Experience within a similar role, preferably supporting health students.
• Strong knowledge of library and information services, academic skills development, and current HE sector practice
• Experience of teaching and supporting students in areas such as research skills, academic writing, and study skills
• Ability to build effective partnerships with academic and professional services colleagues
• Proven ability to apply experience to meet the needs of diverse student groups.
• A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and student-centred practice

A relevant honours degree and professional qualification in librarianship are essential, with chartership (CILIP) or a teaching qualification desirable.
