Job summary

Farleigh School seeks an outstanding Deputy Head (Academic) to join our Senior Management Team from September 2027. The role leads on teaching, learning, curriculum design, assessment and academic standards, promoting excellence while embedding the school’s Catholic ethos across the curriculum.

The Deputy Head (Academic) will work with pupils, staff and parents to support and challenge every child to reach their full potential, and will deputise for the Headmaster when required.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• A degree in a relevant subject.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership - lead on academic matters within the SMT and across the school.
• Teaching and Learning - lead, monitor and evaluate teaching and learning across the school.
• Curriculum Leadership - lead the design, implementation and review of the curriculum.
• Assessment, Reporting and Tracking - monitor pupil progress and reporting.
• Staff Leadership, Development and Wellbeing - line manage HoDs and academic staff.
• Scholarship and Senior School Transfer - oversee scholarship and entrance preparation.
• Catholic Ethos - uphold the mission and values of the school.
• Safeguarding, Compliance, Pastoral and Boarding - ensure high standards.
• External Relations and School Development - support marketing, admissions and business development.
