Department: Academic
Reports to:
Programme Lead
Location:
London Academy for Applied Technology, Aldgate
Contract Type: Full-Time

The London Academy for Applied Technology (LAAT) is a dynamic and rapidly growing higher education institution delivering undergraduate programmes in Business, in partnership with Plymouth Marjon University. LAAT is committed to widening participation and delivering an outstanding student experience underpinned by high-quality teaching and robust governance.

Job Purpose

As LAAT progresses, we are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Academic Coordinator to join our growing team. This pivotal role bridges strategic academic planning and on-the-ground delivery, ensuring that our programmes are run smoothly, resources are well-managed, and both staff and students receive excellent support. Reporting directly to the Programme Lead/Assistant Program Leads, you’ll work closely with module leads, level leads, cohort leads and faculty to coordinate a range of academic operations across our vibrant portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Academic Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day delivery of multiple programmes, coordinate class schedules, organise induction activities, and ensure all teaching resources (lecture rooms, software, library lists) are in place before term starts.
  • Resource Allocation & Materials: Manage the setup and distribution of teaching and assessment materials, maintaining up-to-date content on the Learning Management System (LMS) and shared drives.
  • Monitoring Teaching & Assessment: Track teaching progress and assignment schedules, producing reports that flag any issues (like grading delays or class cancellations) and recommend solutions.
  • Faculty Coordination & Support: Help onboard new lecturers, maintain schedules and contact lists, facilitate regular faculty meetings, and support professional development initiatives for staff.
  • Student Support & Engagement: Act as a point of contact for student academic enquiries, monitor engagement metrics such as attendance and LMS activity, and coordinate follow-up interventions to support success and retention.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Implement academic policies on assessment, feedback, and integrity; maintain programme checklists and prepare materials for audits or external reviews.
  • Administrative Records: Maintain precise academic records, from enrolments and progress data to monthly dashboard reports that inform leadership decisions.
  • LMS Management: Oversee the configuration and upkeep of the LMS, enrol users, upload content, run audits, and provide guidance to staff and students to ensure seamless digital learning.

Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in academic administration or coordination, ideally within a UK higher education context.
  • Strong working knowledge of learning management systems (e.g., Moodle) and student information systems.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities; able to keep complex processes running smoothly across multiple programmes.
  • Clear, confident communicator who can liaise effectively with faculty, students, and external partners.
  • A proactive problem-solver with a collaborative, can-do attitude.

Benefits

Professional Development & Growth

  • Ongoing opportunities for CPD including workshops on academic coordination, compliance, LMS tools, and student data management.
  • Encouragement to pursue relevant higher qualifications (e.g., MA in Education, certificates in quality assurance or academic management).
  • Participation in sector networks (such as the AUA) and conferences to bring best practices back to LAAT.
