A leading maritime service company is seeking a Ships Cook or AB Cook to work on a dredger vessel in Portsmouth. Qualifications

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Ships Cook or an AB Cook to join our team working on a Dredger Vessel on a rotational 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off shift pattern.

Primary Role

The Ship's Cook or AB Cook reports to the Master and takes responsibility for catering on board the vessel, maintaining provision stores and galley.

Secondary Role

The Ships Cook or AB Cook is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mooring operations on arrivals and departures, and any maintenance of the ship, as directed by the Master. The Ships Cook position requires the individual to be willing and able to be trained in performing specific tasks on deck, such as providing assistance in mooring operations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare meals on board including cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and maintain snacks and drinks availability for 24-hour operations.
  • Maintain stocks of food and cabin stores as required and directed by the Master.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the galley and mess areas, maintaining high hygiene standards in accordance with company and international regulations.
  • Keep records of fridge/freezer temperatures, ensuring correct stock rotation and expiry date compliance.
  • Work safely and efficiently on deck, as directed by the Master.
  • Provide navigational watchkeeping routines when required (only for Able Seaman certificate holders).
  • Ensure compliance with company regulations and participate in emergency response duties as detailed in the ship's Muster List.
Requirements
  • Ships Cook: Recognized Cook's Qualification, Basic Food & Hygiene Level 2, updated STCW95 certification, valid ENG1 or equivalent seafarer medical fitness certificate.
  • AB Cook: AB certificate of competency, Basic Food & Hygiene Level 2, updated STCW95 certification, valid ENG1 or equivalent seafarer medical fitness certificate.
  • Knowledge of garbage disposal and management regulations.
  • Ability to work professionally in the galley, maintaining high standards of food and hygiene.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and committed to continuous improvement in meal presentation and quality.
