About The Role

Telford College have got an extremely exciting opportunity within our Sixth Form for a Personal Tutor and A Level Facilitator.

The landscape of this role is rather niche, with half of the role being an A Level Personal Tutor and the other being spent as an A Level Facilitator.

Ideally we are looking for a candidate that would be interested in a full time position split between the two roles, however, we will accept applicants that are only interested in one of the roles on a part time basis.

A Level Personal Tutor

  • Act as a personal tutor to A Level students throughout their academic journey, from application to completion.

A Level Facilitator

  • Work closely with teaching staff to ensure students receive high quality support in the 6th Form which will lead to outstanding outcome above sector norms.

Key Responsibilities

A Level Facilitator

  • Facilitate students in the absence of their regular teacher. Supervise students completing tasks which have been set by their teacher.
  • Monitor and support students carrying out independent work in the 6th Form study centre. Ensure students are on task and are clear what they need to do to improve.
  • Work with small groups of students as directed by their teacher. Offer individual support to reach their minimum target grade.
  • Be proactive in the day to day running of the 6th Form study centre.

Personal Tutor

  • To deliver group tutorial sessions for 18 hours per week during term time. This includes delivery of key tutorial themes such as safeguarding, prevent, British values and healthy relationships. College wide resources should be adapted to suit A Level students and include the appropriate level of stretch and challenge.
  • To aid all students to reflect on their skills and experience, inside and outside the curriculum and encourage them to develop new skills and abilities.
  • Setting and reviewing each students individual learning plan and set stretching targets and action plans to achieve their goals.
  • To identify support needs, either learning or pastoral, especially where these are affecting the students ability to complete their studies successfully and make referrals as appropriate and maintain effective liaison with appropriate college staff to ensure support meets students needs.

Skills, knowledge and expertise Qualifications and training

  • A-Level or equivalent qualification
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* C, or equivalent) in maths and English or a willingness to attain these qualifications with the support of the College
  • Hold a full teaching / relevant qualification or be working towards the completion of one (E.g. PGCE, PCE, DTLLS DET etc.) (Desirable)
  • IAG qualification (Desirable)

Skills And Expertise

  • Awareness of, and empathy with, the needs of students
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues in education
  • Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality
  • Knowledge of current developments and issues in further and higher education
  • Experience of working in an education or related setting
  • Excellent organisation and IT skills and ability to prioritise own workload
