Job summary
The post holder will be a member of the general Portering team and will provide a fullPortering service to all wards and departments as instructed by the PorteringServices Manager, Head Porter or duty Charge hand Porter. Core duties will involve thetransportation of patients, records, equipment, specimens and supplies, together with other tasksas detailed in this job description.
The Porter will be based primarily in Accident & Emergency department.
Main duties of the jobo Collection and transportation of pathology specimens.o Collection of medical gases etc. from store, transport to ward, and department andassemble where necessary.o Change medical gas cylinders in manifold roomso Deal with all general inquiries from staff, patients, visitors and members of the public ina helpful and courteous manner.o Be prepared to carry out the transportation of patient from and or between wards anddepartments. and from Accident & Emergencyo Carry out the removal of deceased patients to the mortuary. (Assist & with viewings asdirected.)o Be prepared to carry the appropriate bleep and undertake duties at departmental levelas directed, i.e. A&E, X-Ray, OPD, Pharmacy,o Carry out Portering of a general nature such as furniture removalsoo Responsibilities continued:o Deal with all general inquiries from staff, patients, visitors and members of the public ina helpful and courteous manner.o To collect and record in the appropriate ledger, blood products as requested from theBlood Bank to wards and departments.o To carry the respective general, departmental bleep and mobile handsets as directed.o To assist in the event of a fire or hospital major security alert in accordance with therelevant Trust policies.o Be prepared to carry out planned and ad - hoc security duties as directed.o Check the identity of anyone arousing suspicion and report all incidents
