Overview of the job

This operational role involves supervising work groups of offenders serving community sentences. Responsibilities include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The post holder will oversee all work site supervision tasks and collaborate with service users to ensure tasks are completed effectively, demonstrating good practice when necessary.

Summary

The post involves working on various projects that involve practical tasks, providing credible punishment and reparation to the community. The post holder will exercise appropriate authority to maintain discipline and good behaviour, alerting relevant staff to any infringements.

The role aims to support the rehabilitative potential of sentences, helping some service users gain employment skills through positive work experiences and vocational training. Staff are expected to contribute to service review, evaluation, and continuous improvement. Weekend work may be required, and the work may involve collaboration with volunteers or partner organisations.

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

The job holder will:

  1. Conduct Pre-Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions.
  2. Lead start-of-day ‘tool box’ talks to ensure understanding of tasks, safety, and motivation.
  3. Follow work directions as per project placement files.
  4. Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed, report risks, and complete related paperwork, including risk assessments.
  5. Ensure availability and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  6. Perform dynamic risk assessments to manage hazards.
  7. Use motivational techniques to ensure disciplined and well-behaved work completion.
  8. Monitor attendance and promote successful completion of placements.
  9. Maintain accurate records in line with organisational requirements and update case management systems promptly.
  10. Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for service users.
  11. Promote Community Payback initiatives with colleagues, external agencies, and the public.

The role requires a commitment to equality and inclusion, adherence to confidentiality policies, and flexibility to undertake additional tasks as needed. Proficiency in spoken English (or Welsh where specified) is essential.
