Job description

  • Annualised Hours - Bilston: 12 hours/week x 2
  • Annualised Hours – Carpenter House: 12 hours/week x 1

Other working patterns may include:

  • Full-time Peripatetic Residential Worker – where successful candidates will undertake reasonable travel to cover shifts at Approved Premises sites within their cluster.
  • Full-time/Part-time Residential Worker vacancies – where successful candidates will be allocated to one Approved Premises for their shift pattern.
  • Annualised hour working pattern – for either 625 or 1250 hours per year, involving one or two 12-hour shifts weekly, including standard and unsocial hours.

Please note: RW staff members cannot transfer to another band 3 role such as PSO, as the job descriptions differ.

Overview of the job

The job holder will work as part of a team providing 24-hour cover at an Approved Premises (AP), including security and monitoring services. They will undertake a full range of work with residents on probation while residing at the AP, supporting risk management, sentence plan objectives, and reporting significant changes related to risk or re-offending to ensure safety and security during their shift.

Summary

The role involves assisting in the well-being and supervision of residents, maintaining discipline, adherence to AP rules, licence conditions, sentence plans, and court orders. It also includes managing residents’ risks, with substantial out-of-hours work, including night and weekend shifts. The post may require covering duties at other APs during staff absences.

In line with PS policies, the post holder must demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion and understand their relevance to their work. They must also adhere to policies regarding the sensitive/confidential information handled in this role.

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
  • Contribute to effective team practice and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Communicate key risk issues during handovers and shifts, including liaising with Offender Managers, partner agencies, police, health professionals, and substance misuse services.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the building, grounds, and CCTV, recording occurrences or damages.
  • Maintain an active presence in the AP, engaging with residents pro-socially to support their wellbeing and adherence to risk management plans.
  • Monitor and manage high-risk residents, challenging and managing abusive or aggressive behaviour appropriately.
  • Contribute to residents’ risk management plans by observing and reporting significant changes.
  • Support residents’ sentence plan objectives through purposeful activities as directed by the AP and Offender Managers.
