Job Description:

Bring Your Experience. Shape Our Future.

Join the Board of Trustees at Parenting Mental Health

When a child experiences mental health difficulties, the whole family feels the impact. Isolated, overwhelmed, facing employment insecurity and financial strain, millions of parents become burned out and isolated, often developing poor mental health of their own. Siblings, grandparents, and wider family members can also be deeply affected, often carrying emotional burdens or providing care, all while navigating stigma and silence surrounding a family in crisis.

Parenting Mental Health (PMH) is committed to creating a world where every carer of a child with mental illness is recognized, equipped, and engaged as a vital partner in their child's recovery. We aim to foster partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, and employers to improve recovery outcomes, reduce financial hardship, and generate economic benefits.

As we strengthen our governance, mission, and strategic priorities, we are seeking 7 new Trustees, including a Treasurer, to help guide our growth and improve outcomes for families in crisis.

As a Trustee, you'll play a pivotal role in guiding PMH's strategic direction, ensuring robust governance, and championing our mission. You will help steward the long-term vision of the charity, supporting a leadership team rooted in lived experience and committed to meaningful change for families in crisis. PMH is entering a new chapter under new leadership, with ambitions to expand its reach and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and oversight of PMH's 2026-2031 strategic plans;
  • Ensure financial stability and regulatory compliance;
  • Advocate for the needs of parents, carers, and communities served;
  • Support fundraising and partnership efforts;
  • Uphold PMH's values of inclusivity, compassion, and empowerment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a charity trustee or leader;
  • Professional expertise in mental health, social work, education, law, governance, safeguarding, HR, fundraising, digital innovation, marketing, campaigning, public affairs, MEL, or related fields;
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion, understanding social, cultural, and economic factors affecting families;
  • Lived experience as a parent or carer of a child with mental health challenges is valued but not essential.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve. We especially welcome applications from minoritized backgrounds and individuals connected to the challenges we address.

Treasurer Role

Additional responsibilities for the Treasurer include supporting financial governance, overseeing budgets, forecasts, and annual accounts, ensuring compliance, advising on financial risk and sustainability, and promoting financial literacy among Trustees.

Time Commitment:

  • Attend four online board meetings annually, one in-person annual meeting, and a strategy workshop in London this July;
  • Term: Three years, with potential for renewal;
  • Remuneration: Voluntary, with expenses reimbursed.

How to Apply:

If passionate about supporting families, please send a cover letter and CV to [emailprotected]. Your cover letter should explain your interest, experience, and motivation for becoming a trustee.

Interviews: Week of 23 June
