7 Trustee vacancies including 1 Treasurer

When a child experiences mental health difficulties, the whole family feels the impact. Isolated, overwhelmed, facing employment insecurity and financial strain, millions of parents become burned out and isolated, all too frequently developing poor mental health of their own. Siblings, grandparents and wider family members can also be deeply affected, often carrying emotional burdens or stepping in to provide care, all while navigating the stigma and silence that so often surround a family in crisis.

Parenting Mental Health (PMH) is committed to creating a world where every carer of a child with mental illness is recognised, equipped, and engaged as a vital partner in their child’s recovery. We are creating a future in which schools, healthcare providers, and employers partner with families, ensuring better recovery outcomes, reduced financial hardship and vital economic benefits.

As we strengthen our governance, mission and strategic priorities, we are seeking 7 new Trustees, including a Treasurer, to help guide our next phase of growth and improved outcomes for families in crisis.

As a Trustee, you'll play a pivotal role in guiding PMH's strategic direction, ensuring robust governance, and championing our mission. You will help steward the long-term vision of the charity, supporting a leadership team rooted in lived experience and committed to delivering meaningful change for families in crisis. PMH is entering a new chapter under new leadership, with an ambition to build on its foundations while expanding its reach and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

●Contribute to the development and oversight of PMH's 2026-2031 strategic plans;

●Ensure financial stability and compliance with regulatory requirements;

●Advocate for the needs of parents, carers and the communities we serve;

●Support fundraising and partnership-building efforts;

●Uphold PMH's values of inclusivity, compassion and empowerment.

We're seeking individuals who bring:

●Previous experience as a charity trustee or leader;

●Professional expertise in areas such as mental health, social work, education, law, charity governance, safeguarding, HR, fundraising, digital innovation, marketing, campaigning, public affairs, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL);

●A commitment to diversity and inclusion, with an understanding of the cultural, social, and economic factors that impact families' experiences.

●Lived experience as a parent or carer of a child or young person with mental health challenges or other complex needs is valued but not essential;

PMH is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board of Trustees that reflects the communities we serve and those facing barriers to support. We particularly welcome applications from individuals from minoritised backgrounds and individuals whose personal experience connects them to the challenges we work to address.

Treasurer Role

Additional Responsibilities for the Treasurer: Alongside the responsibilities of all Trustees, our Treasurer will play a key role in ensuring sound financial governance. While day-to-day financial management is handled by our staff team, which includes two qualified accountants, the Treasurer supports board oversight, compliance and risk management.

Key responsibilities include:

●Providing strategic financial guidance to the Board and leadership team to support robust, compliant decision-making;

●Chairing the Finance and Development Committee;

●Reviewing budgets, forecasts, and management accounts alongside the CEO and Finance Manager;

●Supporting accurate preparation and independent examination of annual accounts;

●Ensuring compliance with statutory financial and governance requirements;

●Advising on financial risk, reserves, and sustainability planning;

●Promoting financial literacy across the board, ensuring all Trustees understand their fiduciary duties.

Time Commitment:

●Trustees are asked to attend four online board meetings per year, one annual in-person meeting, and a strategy development workshop in London this July. Outside of these, the role involves occasional engagement with governance matters and responding to relevant actions or decisions throughout the year;

●Term: Three-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal;

●Remuneration: voluntary role; reasonable expenses reimbursed.
