Job description

The East Midlands area team covers Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland, including iconic landscapes such as the Peak District, Lincolnshire Wolds, Sherwood Forest, and Rutland Water. Major cities like Nottingham, Lincoln, Derby, and Leicester provide opportunities for partnerships focused on environmental outcomes that benefit local communities.

Natural England's mission is building partnerships for nature’s recovery, working rapidly to protect habitats, species, and landscapes in line with Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan. We aim to increase understanding and connection with communities to enhance their appreciation and benefits from the natural environment.

We seek a highly motivated individual passionate about nature conservation and woodland management to support the EU-funded LIFE in the Ravines (LITR) project. The project focuses on ravine woodlands within the Peak District Dales SAC, aiming to:

  • Restore over 800ha of mixed ravine woodland currently dominated by ash
  • Diversify woodland structures for long-term viability and climate resilience
  • Promote understanding and best practices in woodland restoration

The project is a collaboration between Natural England and partners including Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, the National Trust, the Chatsworth Estate, the Peak District National Park, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, and other stakeholders.

The Engagement & Communications Officer will be part of the core LITR team, supporting communication and engagement efforts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Social Media Management
  • Digital Analytics
  • Email Marketing
  • Content Creation
  • Visual Communication
  • Presentation Skills
  • Website Management
  • Project Support

While knowledge of woodland management and biodiversity is advantageous, technical support will be provided by NE specialists. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage projects, and the capacity to build trusting partnerships aligned with Natural England’s vision.
