6 month FTC maternity cover - Director, Employee Relations - Capital Markets & Functions (London)

The Director, Employee Relations – Capital Markets (CM) & Functions role is focused on the CM business and the Functions within RBC across the UK, Channel Islands and Europe and will have primary accountability for the effective management of workplace risk and employee relations matters within these business lines.

The opportunity is for a maternity cover role commencing in late August/September 2025.

This role includes managing disciplinary, grievance and whistleblowing investigations and processes and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulatory requirements and employment legislation.

The role reports to the Head of Employee Relations for UK, Europe and APAC and will involve people management duties.

What will you do?

Employee Conduct & Risk Culture

Lead management of employee investigations, including disciplinary, grievance, whistleblowing and other Respectful Workplace/Code of Conduct matters

Work with HR Business Partners and key business stakeholders to effectively manage employee workplace issues

Monitor regulatory developments, identify and report trends and emerging issues through data analytics and insights.

Advice and Guidance on all ER Issues

Provide guidance to managers and senior leaders to resolve sensitive workplace issues, including in the areas of performance management, attendance management and Respectful Workplace matters

Provide advice on restructuring initiatives, change management projects and onboarding and offboarding matters, working with internal partners as required.

Conduct Monitoring and Reporting

Manage HR/ER processes and systems to monitor employee conduct, aligning with business conduct monitoring processes to provide integrated insights and identify proactive strategies to prevent misconduct

Improve the analysis of employee misconduct - identifying and reporting trends and emerging issues including understanding the root cause of misconduct to report insights to the business and functional partners, as required, for additional monitoring.

Support & monitor employee development/career management to build/grow professional capabilities

Foster an open environment that drives a high-performance culture.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

Extensive experience in Employee Relations in Financial Services and/or employment law

Strong knowledge of UK employment law and the applicable regulatory framework

Significant experience in conducting and/or managing workplace investigations

Demonstrated experience in aligning and integrating risk management with business and HR strategy

Exceptional ability in establishing and managing relationships with senior level stakeholders

Thought leadership, strategic thinking, analytical and problem solving capabilities

Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Excellent collaboration capabilities and ability to engage others to work towards a shared vision and common goals.

Strong preference:

Qualified lawyer and/or extensive experience in Employee Relations

Experience in an in-house legal department/law firm or Employee Relations team.
