The job holder will be responsible for providing supervision, knowledge, and skills to prisoners in a specialist workshop to improve their employment prospects on release, aiming to reduce reoffending. They will ensure high standards of service, security, and control, and may teach prisoners towards nationally recognized qualifications, possibly supported by external organizations such as local colleges.
This job description is not for basic assembly or packing workshops; instead, the Production Instructor – Enterprises role should be used. However, on an exceptional short-term basis, supervision of prisoners in basic workshops may be permitted.
This is a non-operational role with no line management responsibilities.
The above responsibilities are current but not exhaustive. The job holder is expected to accept reasonable additional tasks and modifications, which may require re-evaluation under the Job Evaluation scheme, with prior discussion.
Candidates will have or be working towards a Level 3 qualification in their specialist area or possess equivalent experience.
Ability to confidently communicate in English, or Welsh where specified in Wales.
