Overview of the job

Working at the direction of the Head of Operational Function, the post holder will be deployed to various roles to provide strategic support.

Summary

The role involves supporting the Head of LDU Cluster by providing management and leadership within the National Probation Service (NPS) Local Delivery Unit (LDU). The post holder will represent the Head of LDU Cluster with external agencies/stakeholders and staff as appropriate. All policies regarding the sensitive/confidential information handled must be adhered to. Participation in out-of-hours on-call rota may be required. Responsibilities, activities, and duties may include but are not limited to:

  1. Leading on caseload segmentation issues such as Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, and Integrated Offender Management.
  2. Providing operational support within relevant Probation Instruction criteria and rules.
  3. Supporting management of grievances, discipline, capability, and complaints.
  4. Overseeing professional development and training needs analysis for cluster staff.
  5. Ensuring effective recruitment and induction processes.
  6. Leading performance and quality initiatives within the cluster.
  7. Managing audits, inspections, and reviews related to serious case reviews and other action plans.
  8. Managing the Business Manager and administrative support functions.
  9. Representing the NPS in local strategic partnerships and multi-agency arrangements like MAPPA.
  10. Making decisions and providing advice in the absence of the Head of LDU Cluster, including offender management decisions.
  11. Handling complaints within the cluster and leading specific projects on equality, diversity, reward, and recognition.
  12. Ensuring health and safety compliance and managing estate and maintenance activities.
  13. Modeling pro-social behavior and safeguarding duties.

Additional Information

This post is open to candidates on lateral transfer or loan. For internal candidates applying for promotion, it will be a temporary act-up with a loan agreement. External candidates will be on a fixed-term contract. The role involves leading the South West Probation Service Court Work, liaising with sentencers and HMCTS, with temporary coverage up to 12 months.

The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where feasible. The location will be discussed and agreed upon during the hiring process. Standard hours are 37 hours per week, with consideration for part-time and flexible working. Benefits include annual leave, pension, training opportunities, and employee networks.
