Job description

ELECTRICIAN (RESIDENT)

Carbon60 is recruiting an experienced Electrician to provide planned and reactive electrical maintenance across a large healthcare estate within the Birmingham area.

ROLE: Electrician

PAY RATE: £14.36 - £16.92 per hour (PAYE) | Equivalent salary £28,000 - £33,000

CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed Term - November 2025 to Mar 2026

LOCATION: Birmingham, UK

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (7.5 hours per day)

HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT: 24 days per year + Bank Holidays (calculated on 7.5-hr days)

OVERTIME RATES:

  • Weekdays (finish time - midnight): Single rate
  • All other hours (midnight - start time, including weekends): Time & a half

THE ROLE:

The Electrician will support the delivery of planned preventive maintenance (PPM), testing, reactive repairs, and general electrical engineering duties across the QEH estate. You will ensure all electrical work complies with statutory regulations, HTM guidance, and contractual KPIs, while maintaining a high standard of service for NHS Trust stakeholders. You will work across Mental Health sites under the QEH contract and other areas as directed by the Estates Management Team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carry out PPM, testing, reactive and breakdown maintenance across the estate.
  • Work with electrical systems in line with HTMs, BS 7671, and relevant industry standards.
  • Diagnose faults, complete repairs, and ensure work is recorded accurately.
  • Interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Set up and complete "New Works" using trade-specific tools and machinery.
  • Ensure all work complies with Equans KPIs and NHS Trust requirements.
  • Maintain workshops, equipment, and workspaces to a safe and clean standard.
  • Conduct management safety visits, compliance audits, and equipment inspections.
  • Support emergency response actions to protect people, property, and service continuity.
  • Use CAFM systems effectively and maintain accurate digital records.
  • Support Estates Management with supervision, rota/absence cover, and operational duties.
  • Assist with budgetary responsibilities including stock checks and asset management.
  • Provide first-line management response to site incidents and non-compliance issues.
  • Work across clinical areas including Mortuary, ICU, A&E, and Operating Theatres (as required).
  • Occasionally exposed to sensitive situations; professionalism is essential.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent training.
  • City & Guilds electrical qualifications, such as
    • C&G 236 (Parts 1, 2 & 3) or 2360 (Parts 1-3)
    • C&G 2330 Level 2 & 3 (Level 4 desirable)
    • C&G 2560 (2357) - Diploma
    • 18th Edition (BS 7671:2018/Amd.)
  • C&G 2394 / 2395 - Testing & Inspection
  • Proven experience in electrical maintenance within healthcare or similar complex estates.
  • Knowledge of HTM requirements for healthcare environments.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • ONC / HNC / HND in relevant engineering discipline
  • HTM Authorised Person (LV / HV / MGPS / Ventilation)
  • Confined Spaces AP
  • IPAF / MEWP
  • IOSH / NEBOSH
  • IWFM Certification
  • Degree or Masters in engineering-related field
  • Minimum five years LV/HV experience
